1894 N302 Mayo's Cut Plug John Dunlop HARVARD SGC Auth

Key Rarity From American Football's First Production

Football is the offspring of various forms of sport and was introduced to the United States when teams representing Princeton and Rutgers Universities took to the field in 1869. Over the next few decades, the modern game was established with rules and became increasingly popular and widespread enough to justify Mayo Tobacco Works of Richmond to circulate a roster of thirty-five different Ivy League players representing Yale, Harvard and Princeton University teams for the tobacco firms 'Cut Plug' brand of tobacco. This truly is the first Football set ever produced and therefore quite historical. Offered here is easily the most rare card from the set, labeled as 'Anonymous' for years until hobbyists identified him as John Dunlop of Harvard University. Highly prized among hobbyists/investors and widely considered a fine-art equivalent. To date, very few confirmed copies have been assessed by SGC with the offered Authentic example being among the finest to hit the public market. Recolored at the corners and edges with black sharpie but still retaining great eye appeal. Free of paper loss with a clear image of Dunlop on the front. All told, this example ranks among the finest in the hobby and remains criminally under valued based on its history. A must-own for the most passionate of Football collectors. Please see the video highlight for more details on this offering. One of over 23,000 cards, lots and sets up for bid in our 11th Auction of 2020. Commitment to Purchase

Placing a bid in our auction demonstrates a commitment to complete the purchase. Any buyer who does not pay for an item will be permanently blocked from bidding with PWCC and reported to eBay.

Payment Options

In addition to paying direct through eBay, PWCC is proud to offer several additional options to enable easier payment for auction winnings including special financing and the option to submit cards to one of our auctions in lieu of payment. Please contact PWCC with any questions about these payment options.

PWCC Return Policy

Our return policy is not a no-questions-asked return policy. Returns are only accepted if an item is misrepresented in the auction title, description, images, email, or phone communication. Buyer's remorse is not a valid reason for return. We strive to be reasonable in the event of a disagreement and ask that buyers afford us the same level of fairness. Misrepresentation of an auction item is exceedingly rare.

We at PWCC are not professional graders so we trust in the reputation and opinion of 3rd party professional graders. Professional grading is subjective and different 3rd party graders will often disagree over the grading on a single card. Such a disagreement is not a justifiable reason for a return with PWCC.

As a broker of graded trading cards, our responsibility is the accurate description and delivery of the item advertised; not to guarantee how a graded card will be assessed by different grading company. Any issue a buyer has with a card's professional grade should be addressed with the company that graded the card.

Returned items must be received back in the condition they were received. Original shipping as well as return shipping will be refunded along with the full purchase price upon receiving back a returned item.

Auction Integrity

Safeguarding the integrity of bidding on our auctions is our highest priority. For the trading card marketplace to function effectively, the honesty and integrity of the participants must be ensured. Collectors deserve a bidding environment that is 100% legitimate and free from manipulation by the auction house, consignors, friends of consignors, friends of the auction house, or anyone else who seeks to exert artificial influence on the sale price.

Bid Monitoring

PWCC proactively monitors the behavior of bidders. We reserve the right to contact bidders who place bids outside the guidelines outlined below, and in some cases, we will choose to cancel bids and block bidders from participating in our auctions.

  • All bid retractions and cancellations that violate eBay’s policy are reported daily to eBay. eBay reserves the right to enforce its policies.
  • Any username with recurrent bid retractions across the eBay platform will be blocked from participating in further PWCC auctions.
  • "String bidding", or placing a series of sequential bids at the minimum bid increment, can be perceived as bid manipulation because the practice allows a bidder to expose the maximum bid of another bidder without becoming the high bidder himself or herself. Any instances of string bidding will be flagged by our team. In cases of clear manipulation, string bids will be cancelled and offenders will be blocked.

We ask that the bidding community assist us in identifying concerning bid behavior on any of our auctions. Please notify PWCC of any suspicious behavior by sending an email to our bid monitoring team. Contact information can be found on our website under the “Buyers” tab. Thank you for helping us ensure the integrity of the marketplace.
